“I have a garden fish pond measuring 20 ft long x 10 ft, approximately 3,000 gallons of water. Over the years it has been plagued with blanket weed. Green Lightning
Remove blanketweed from your pond or lake in an efficient and environmentally friendly fashion
Green Lightning is a fast-acting microbial product for use in static and slow moving water. It effectively controls swimming or floating unicellular and filamentous algae. Including Cladophera, Rhizoclonium, Spirogyra (common Blanket Weed), Vaucheria and Ulothrix. It improves the clarity of water and reduces unpleasant odours within days of treatment.
Green Lightning comes in a powder consisting of freeze dried bacteria set on cereal food. (bran) and is supplied ready for use in a water soluble bag which can be thrown into the pond or lake being treated. The coloured bag illustrated is for promotional purposes only
The Dept of the Environment have effectively banned all chemical treatments to kill Blanket Weed. Some proprietary brands are still sold in Europe but the favoured method of Blanket Weed control is the use of ‘natural’ methods. The simplest of these ‘natural’ treatments is to stock the pond with plants and animals that actively consume blanket weed or compete for the same food. This would establish a natural equilibrium in the pond but in practice would limit the number of fauna and flora making the pond less of an ornamental feature.

Green Lightning is an alternative ‘natural’ product and includes the use of safe (non-pathogenic) bacteria. It contains strains belonging the Bacillus genus and includes both aerobic and facultative anaerobic strains.
These “good” bacteria actively consume nutrients required by the main filamentous algae in the pond such as Spirogyra, Cladophera, Rhizoclonium,Vaucheria and Ulothrix.
These nutrients are generally excessive waste derivates such as fat, oil and grease, proteins, sugars, starch and cellulose. The bacteria will also consume Nitrates, dissolved Ammonia and Phosphates.
The “good” bacteria remove these very basic components required by Blanket Weed and the water becomes clearer as the weed dies off. Any unpleasant odour is largely removed too.

This year for the first time we have introduced a special additional mineral to increase the performance of GREEN LIGHTNING. It is called Green Lightning Booster.
Add 10% of the BOOSTER to your Green Lightning dose to boost its performance.
We have produced 2 bags. One with 10gms for 100gm bags and one with 50gms for the larger 450gm bags
The BOOSTER produces a burst of Oxygen to invigorate the bacteria in the Green Lightning and get them working as soon and as hard as possible to remove the Blanket Weed.
Please remember that the BOOSTER bags are NOT water soluble so empty the contents directly into the water.
